Spring Fashion Trends for 2012

The runway shows and fashion editors have spoken! Let’s shed our winter blues and fashion up for spring. Pantone has provided a bright color palette for spring including pale yellow, tangerine and bright blue. Bright, bold colors are the statement now. Wear them in classic and natural styles showing off big gemstones, geodes and crystals. Big cocktail rings are still in vogue as well as recycled, vintage materials and flower designs. Crosses are all the rage. Try a simple gold cross on a gold chain.

Here is what you should be adding to your jewelry collection this season: button and stud earrings, smaller chandelier earrings, hair jewelry reminiscent of the art deco era, pearls long or short, long pendant necklaces, anything tribal, citrine and fire opal gemstones, yellow gold, large bangles to layer, cuff bracelets, vintage and recycled brooches, and flower cabochons on rings, bracelets or hairpins. Spring 2011 Jewelry Fashion Update

Runway – The runway this season shows big bold metal cuffs made of structural metal with smooth lines and embellished with large cabochon gemstones and metal components. Necklaces have the same feel with bold colors and clean metal lines. Beaded bibs and chokers are back. Plastics, ribbon and whimsical designs also showed up.

Oscars – The Oscars saw Emeralds at every turn. Emerald and diamond earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings were worn with red and blue hued dresses. Also earrings were a dominant accessory highlighting tassels and feathers.

Art & Craft – At a recent craft show there were cuffs and feathers on every table. Leather cuffs with very large metal focals in floral shapes. Metal cuffs embellished with feathers and beads. Feather and fabric earrings with rhinestone and metal embellishments and feather hairpieces in all colors were a stand out.

What’s missing? – I’d like to see more vintage embellishments, especially from artisan jewelry designers. I’m currently looking for more vintage pieces (I’ve used up most of my recycled stash) to redesign into more modern styles. Although the labor is very intensive I’m working on a beaded bib necklace. While bibs are still very much in fashion, a good quality one is hard to find. Honeysuckle pink is projected to be the hot color in jewelry for spring, although I haven’t seen much of it around at all. I do love the brown/gold/orange combinations and the neutral shell tones though. I absolutely love the emerald colors seen at the Oscars and plan on working a lot with this color in the coming months along with its rich siblings in red, purple and blue. I also love the feathers and would like to see more of a modern nature theme come to life with animal prints and insects. Stay tuned to www.jenuinearticles.com to see my latest and greatest designs!

Fall Jewelry Trends 2008

Jewelry trends for fall 2008 are big bold pendants in 1960's style circles. Spice up simple cut shirts and dresses with dramatic statement necklaces. Medallions are hot as well as textured metals (especially copper) mixed with silk or leather cord. Colors to highlight are shades of warm reds combined with shades of olive. Purple and gray makes an elegant statement. Since being “green” is very trendy right now many designers are using natural materials such as wood, shell, bone and natural pearls along with gemstones such as turquoise, jade, and agate. A focal piece like a larger pendant is a nice way to make a statement without seeming over the top.
For your wrist, bold cuff bracelets with focal pieces make nice accents, especially in metal or neutral colors.
On the runways, Rococo style jewelry is making a splash this season. This can be seen in chandelier type earrings as well as bold necklaces that make a plain black or gray dress look stunning. This opens up a whole new selection of costume jewelry that won’t break your bank. Try crystals and glass in place of diamonds and gemstones. Red copper is a nice alternative to gold and brass can be just as shiny and elegant. Other earring styles to snatch up: hoops, pearls and birthstones.

Fall 2008
Since summer is almost over, or at least past the half way mark, what’s up for fall? CHOCOLATE! A palette of warm browns, creamy, and golden shades that just make you want to cuddle up in a soft sweater next to a fire. And eat. But I always want to do that.

Also elegant silky pastels with silvery sweetness combined with art deco and filigree in the vein of 1940s movies. Think of Greta Garbo in Two Faced Woman. Or Bette Davis in June Bride.

Color is one of my favorite topics. As a jewelry designer I love playing with colors. This summer bold and eye catching colors prevail. It’s the perfect way to brighten our outfits. I am really loving the orange and yellow combinations. Also deep purple is making a splash as well as a myriad of ocean blues.
